Hand crafted briefcase, made of rosewood and cocobolo, with flip lever locks by Don Shoemaker. This vintage wooden art briefcase is constructed using beautifully contrasting cocobolo and rosewood segments which give the appearance of a woven fabric. Shoemaker was an American who worked in Morelia, Mexico from the 1940's until his death in 1990. His fine wood furniture and table objects have earned him the designation as the Nakashima of Mexico. This piece dates either from the 1950's or early 1960's and was made in Mexico.

Recently acquired from the estate of master woodworker Jerry Glaser who was a talented wood carver, tool maker and highly collectible in his own right as well as having an amazing collection of wooden collectibles including Sam Maloof chairs, Original Eames furniture etc.

This would make a great birthday gift, investment art piece or a fabulous addition to any unique mid century home decor.

Case measures 16“ long by 11" tall (12" with handle) by 3" deep and weighs 6lb.

CONDITION

In excellent condition considering age and use, the woodwork is phenomenal. On the inside of the case, there is a change of color in the wood which is the natural color of the wood and not staining or a mark (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
